In memory of
My Dad John Gillway
On the 20 of June this year (Date has now changed due to recent events and will post new date when available) I will be entering the Longest Day Up Challenge to raise funds for Cancer Research. My Family has been hugely affected by Cancer over the last few years with my Dad, my Mum and two other family members being diagnosed with Cancer. My Mum has since fought Cancer and was given the all clear two years ago. We Sadly lost my Dad in October along as the loss of two other family members in 2019. My Dad lived for biking, and he passed the bug on to me, buying me my first motorcycle at 15. My Dad loved nothing more than going for a ride on one of his bikes, weather a spirited or steady ride on a Sunday, or going out with the old boys on the vintage bikes from Chesterfield Classic Motorcycle Club on a Tuesday night. My Dad fought Cancer for 3 years with the help of the NHS, Cancer Research and other organisations and throughout it all he always had hope, kept riding bikes, planning for new bikes and making modifications. My last ride out with my Dad was in September and we rode for over 4 hours on a round trip up to Squires Cafe. To memory of my Dad I will be doing the Longest Day Up Ride ride on my Dad's 'winter bike' a red 1998 Yamaha Fazer 600 which he owned for many many years and put his personal touches on :) The monies raised through this event will go to a great cause: not only to try and cure this terrible illness but to also help give people extra time to continue to be with their loved ones and do the things they love for longer. If possible please donate to this worthwhile cause to help Cancer Research further develop treatments and cures. UPDATE Hi everyone, we now have a date, and a change of plan the ride will now be setting off at 5am on Saturday 1st of August from Grantham Kawasaki on the folloing routes due to covid 19 and unknown border and accomadation issues with going up to scotland . Loop 1 will take you to Scarborough via the Lincolnshire Wolds past Cadwell Park, through Kirmington (Guy Martins home town/village), the Humber bridge and Olivers Mount race track where the first pit stop will be. Then back via North Yorkshire Moors, Lincolnshire past the home of the Red Arrows and back to Chris Walkers. Loop 2 will take you to the pit stop at the Bathams brewery via Donington Park and the National Memorial Arboritum and then back via some of the best roads anywhere up through Market Harborough, Uppingham, across Rutland and back into Grantham. Loop 3 Takes you to a pit stop at Weston Super Mare including the good ‘ol Fosse Way to test your patience and mental strength.
