2017 Simplyhealth Great Manchester Run Half Marathon

I’m raising as much as I can to beat cancer, specifically Lung Cancer.

My Story

In 2016 having completed the Manchester 10 K I promised myself then that I would run the Half Marathon in 2017. During 2016 I lost 1 close family relative and 3 good friends to Cancer, and decided that this would be an excellent Charity to run for..... Earlier this year we learnt that Mel's Sister Wendy had been diagnosed with Lung Cancer, not ever a smoker and not yet fifty. On Sunday 28th May 2017 I shall running for Wendy. At 54, and a smoker for a good number of those years I am no athlete by any means. I hope to complete the 13.1 miles in under 2 hours, and to make things more interesting I shall pledge to match the funding I receive (up to a limit of £ 250) if I cannot complete within this time, so please give generously to see me suffer! Donating through this page is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with Cancer Research UK.

CAUSE

Lung cancer

Each year more than 43,500 people are diagnosed with lung cancer in the UK. We urgently need to drive progress so that more people survive their disease. Cancer Research UK is at the forefront in lung cancer research and is funding various projects to tackle the disease head on. This includes the TRACERx study, Cancer Research UK’s largest investment into lung cancer to date. This study has already transformed our understanding of how lung cancer evolves and is continuing to shed light on how to prevent, detect and treat the disease.
