My Story

In early 2021 my nephew, who at the time was 21, was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma. Hodgkin's lymphoma is a type of cancer that affects the lymphatic system, which is part of the body's germ-fighting immune system. In Hodgkin's lymphoma, white blood cells called lymphocytes grow out of control, causing swollen lymph nodes and growths throughout the body. He underwent chemotherapy over a period of 6 months and earlier this year was cleared of all cancer and is now back to leading a normal life. If it wasn't for the treatment that he received so quickly, who knows where he would be now or if even, he would still be with us. His whole attitude throughout was a positive one and not once did he want to give up and beat this cruel disease. Myself and his family will be eternally grateful for what cancer research has meant for his health and wellbeing. Therefore I want to give something back to them and use my own healthy body to help them strive to continue to beat this disease. I'm therefore going to be starting out on a journey for the next 50 weeks. Why 50 you may ask, well that's because in 50 weeks I will be turning the ripe old age of 50. Each week I will be running 50km. And in the process as well as completing my journey I am looking at raising an ambitious £50,000. #Barrys50-50-50-50 Where do you all come into this, well it's simple, I will be needing support across numerous areas; - Donations - Encouragement - Join Me - Suggest Playlists - Promotion - Tell me your story DONATIONS Obviously, your donations will go a long way and every penny will be appreciated just as much as the last. ENCOURAGEMENT Any words or messages of inspiration will be greatly received as I am sure there will be some dark moments over this coming year. JOIN ME The plan is to run 5 x 10km a week both inside on the treadmill and outside so why not come and join me for one of those runs and keep me company. I can even come to you depending on logistics, or if you are that far away, we could always join virtually with today's technology. So please do get in touch and we can arrange something. SUGGEST PLAYLISTS Potentially I have 250 runs which will be about an hour each so any suggestions for playlists etc would be welcomed. PROMOTION Spreading the word across your own social networks of my journey will increase the size of the network in order to help me hit my fundraising target, so the more involved you all become the more likely I will hit my target. TELL ME YOUR STORY Please share your story with me and I can add to my continued updates each week and tag you in which you in turn can then share through your own networks. Whether you are currently undergoing treatment, have beat cancer, know someone that has or has beaten cancer, or sadly have lost someone to cancer, then it would be great to get these stories out there. So please come and support me on my journey any which way you can, I will post regular updates on Instagram (peakebarry) Facebook (Barry Peake) and Twitter (@sasicb) as well as on my just giving page. So please follow me and support me on my journey.

CAUSE

Lymphoma

Survival rates for many types of lymphoma has increased significantly – now, twice as many people survive non-Hodgkin lymphoma as in the 1970s. And four out of five people will survive Hodgkin's lymphoma, compared to fewer than half of patients in the 1970s. Help Cancer Research UK improve effective treatments and survival with your donation.
