I’ve signed up to take part in this event to raise some cash towards beating this awful disease that seems to be so common for the majority of people these days! Taking on different forms and unfairly affecting the lives of many. This walk, being spurred on by my wonderful work colleagues, will also give me a personal challenge. I have been less active over the past year or so and signing up means that I now have to make some time to exercise more regularly and improve my fitness levels, resulting in a healthier me... YAY! My Nan passed away this year. She had reached the grand age of 90 years and had battled cancer as well as other medical conditions during her lifetime. I always remember her telling me about the times when she travelled home on the bus from the hospital, with a bladder full of chemo. She would make a joke about it, would you believe! Despite her dealing with the stress of having this life threatening condition and having lost other close members of the family due to cancer, she always tried to keep a positive attitude and even though she ended up losing her bladder she continued life’s journey. Cancer has affected people I know and love, friends and family both near and far and I really would love to give what I can towards better rates for survival so that it may not be a killer in the future. Each year Cancer Research UK’s scientists get closer to beating cancer, and they’ve helped double survival rates in the last 40 years. Only with our continued support can they turn this research into breakthroughs that save millions of lives.
