In September with a few of my very close friends, I will be taking part in a semi marathon in London “The shine night walk’’ organised by Cancer Research, in support of support of Gaspard, the son of my best friends who has been recently diagnosed with cancer. Gaspard is a cheeky, adorable 3 year old whose life was turned upside down just before Christmas when he was diagnosed with a stage 3 Rhabdomyosarcoma located in his pelvis. Rhabdomyosarcoma is a type of soft tissue sarcoma, a rare type of cancer that affects less than 60 children a year in the UK. Since then, Gaspard has been treated at Great Ormond Street Hospital, Childrens Hospital in London) in the Oncology department. He and his family have undertaken an incredibly hard journey which so far has included 9 rounds of chemo, 7 weeks of Proton B therapy In Jacksonville in Florida in the US, (a special radiation treatment that uses proton, rather than X ray, to improve targeting and spare organs surrounding the tumour), countless surgeries and general anaesthetics.. In September, I will be walking the Shine night Walk in support of Gaspard's journey, his family, the medical teams surrounding them as well as too many of my loved ones who are or have also been impacted by cancer.
