My Story
Thank you for taking the time to visit my Giving page. On 6 May 2024 I will be running my 7th marathon for charity. The charity I have chosen for the MK Marathon and Richmond Marathon (September 2024) is Cancer Research UK. Going through cancer is such a traumatic and dark time for patients and their loved ones, but supporting a worthwhile charity feels a positive way of doing something about it, it means we can be optimistic about future diagnosis and treatment. Cancer survival rates have doubled over the past 40 years and this achievement would not be possible without the work of Cancer Research UK and likewise charities. Cancer Research UK is the only charity fighting over 200 cancers including the one that matters most to you. A frightening statistic but 1 in 2 people will develop cancer in their life time. A close friend was diagnosed with breast cancer a few years ago and after enduring grueling treatment has come through the other side, and although her husband lost his brave fight to lung cancer he had entered into a trial and the cancer was kept at bay for a further 9 months giving them more precious time together. Let us bring forward that day when all cancers are cured. I would be grateful for any contribution you are willing to make regardless of how large or small, so that the charity can continue to research and develop cures and we can live longer better lives. Cancer is complex. There are over 200 types of cancer, most of which have different biology and behaviour. With your support, our dedicated researchers can continue to discover better ways to prevent, detect and treat this disease, and bring about a world where everybody lives longer, better lives, free from the fear of cancer.
