2023 London Landmarks Half Marathon

Sun 2 Apr 2023

My Story

I have decided to take part in the London Landmarks Half Marathon 2023 to help raise money and make awareness to a charity close to my heart. My amazing Nan is currently fighting cancer. Unfortunately, her diagnosis means there is no current treatment available to her and that is why I am raising money for cancer research, so they can hopefully find further treatment for others. Myself and my Nan have an amazing relationship, she lived in my family home growing up from the age of 5, so was more like my second mum, rather than my Nan. We are still extremely close and currently live around the corner from each other. She has a special connection with my cockapoo Elsa, as you can see in the photo. This is my Nan’s story: Around 2015 my Nan beat her battle with Breast Cancer and was in remission for 5 years. Unfortunately during the difficult time of covid in 2020, she was informed that the cancer had some back and spread. She was firstly told it was in her lungs and then as each scan passed, it had started to spread more. Now than less that 2 years later, it has spread to her bones, kidney, liver and face. After trying every treatment possible over the two years, her doctor informed her that none of these treatments were working and there is no more options available to her. Due to her age, as she is now 91 years old, chemo would be too invasive for someone of her condition. Cancer is happening right now, which is why I’m raising money right now for Cancer Research UK. There’s no time to lose! Since setting up this fundraising page and deciding to do the Half Marathon in April 2023, for Cancer Research in support of my Nan. Sadly on 20th August I lost my nan to her battle with cancer. One day she became disoriented, so we contacted 999. After the hospital thinking it was just high calcium, sadly it turned out the cancer had spread and bleed onto the brain. The last month of her life was horrible to watch, the cancer took over and the person she was disappeared so quickly. I can’t imagine how she felt, so confused and in pain. I don’t even have the word to describe how horrible this disease is. Please Donate to my page today and help bring forward the day when all types of cancer are cured and people don’t have to experience this horrible, cruel disease.
