Cancer is happening right now, which is why I’m raising money right now for Cancer Research UK. I am taking part in this sponsored cycle ride to raise money for the early diagnosis of cancer in patients, as most of us in some way or another have had members of family or close friends who have sadly had encounters with this awful disease. My mother was unfortunately one of its many victims despite everyone’s best efforts with her various cancer treatments, but to this day I remain convinced that an earlier diagnosis may well have given her a better chance. This was 25 years ago and thankfully in this time all forms of cancer treatment have moved on immeasurably, however the fact remains that the earlier cancer is diagnosed the better chance the patient is likely to have for a successful outcome. So this was my motivation when I was asked to cycle the 400km in 6 days through Cambodia in temperatures over 30 degree C, with high humidity, riding across a whole range of terrains.
