Some of you reading this will have known my mum, she passed away 2 years ago this May, she was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer in her 70's, she went through surgery and had several courses of chemotherapy. It was a shock to her and all the family when she was told but she took it in her stride and fought it without ever complaining and with the support of my dad and the family. She had always lived a healthy life, she had never smoked or drank alcohol, she had a healthy diet but cancer doesn't just care about that. My sister-in-law was in her 50's when cancer took her, she also had a healthy lifestyle, her death left my brother and their 3 daughters to pick up the pieces of their lives, cancer doesn't pick and choose, cancer doesn't care if your young or old, wealthy or poor, black or white it comes into our lives and takes away the people we love. Last week a lovely lady called Lorraine passed away, I met her briefly last year and even though I didn't get the chance to get to know her very well the times I did spend with her I knew she was a lovely lady, I knew she wasn't well but she never said anything and never complained, she always had a smile on her face, an infectious laugh and a kind word. Life is short enough so we need to do all we can to stop cancer taking away the people we love and the friends we make. Walking 5k in memory of the people I have loved and lost to cancer and all the people who I have never met will be a pleasure, so please give what you can for them so that we can put a stop to losing our friends and family.
