I am running this race with my friend Matilda to help raise money towards supporting Cancer Research UK. Every two minutes a person is diagnosed with cancer in the UK; to paint a picture in numbers: in 2014, 357,000 people received a cancer diagnosis. Only a half of them have a chance of surviving long-term. Cancer Research UK funds ground-breaking research through a variety of projects to deliver change in these statistics. They fund research institutes, experimental medicine centres, drug discovery facilities and clinical trials alongside other projects, programmes and training fellowships for researchers. Matilda and I are both aspiring researchers and although cancer research is not our field, we want to do our part by participating in the Race for Life 5k. Please help us support Cancer Research UK.

Cancer survival rates have doubled over the past 40 years. Consistent progress is being made but improvements to technology and ground-breaking work offer new opportunities to find different ways to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer and improve survival rates even further.
