My Story
Thank you for visiting my Cancer Research UK Veg Pledge page. Cancer is the leading cause of death worldwide, accounting for 9.6 million deaths just in 2018! It's not a picky disease, cancer can affect anyone and anytime and there are so many different types - though some are more common than others, and between 30-50% of these are in fact preventable through various lifestyle changes such as quitting smoking, getting the right vaccinations, using sunscreen, and changing your diet. I am taking part in the "Veg Pledge" throughout November for Cancer Research UK in order to help do my part to raise money towards such important research, cancer affects so many people, it's affected people in my life as I'm sure it has people in yours, and the money donated to Cancer Research over the past 30 years alone has already boosted the survival rate from 34% to 50%, 50% of people diagnosed with cancer are now surviving, because of cancer research. So how is going vegetarian for a month relevant? A vegetarian diet can reduce the risk of bowel cancer, bladder cancer, and blood cancers compared to meat eaters. Not saying eating meat will give you cancer - that's ridiculous, but its about being aware of how much of certain types of food we're putting in our bodies, basically, a healthy balanced diet can help towards preventing cancer as obesity is a cause of 13 different types of cancer. There's is plenty more information on Cancer Research UK's website if you're interested in learning more. I am fully committed to helping to raise both money and awareness for such a great cause and I'd really appreciate any donation anyone can spare, a little can go a long way, Just £5 can kit out and entire lab with all the essential chemicals needed for research!
