10k Shine Night in the fight to beat cancer

In memory of

my beautiful, fun loving Mum

My Story

In August 2019, Mum was diagnosed with a rare type of cancer known as Leiomyosarcoma (Our journey with this lasted 5 months) An emergency Hysterectomy was performed within a week, and we were given the all clear, that the entire tumour was removed. We were so relieved, so grateful we caught it at an early stage. We were very lucky that Summer, to spend so much time together - little did we know that would be our last Summer together as family forever. 2 months later Mum was rushed to hospital after a routine GP appointment and from that time, she remained in hospital. Mums cancer had returned, and more aggressive than ever! We spent several weeks in hospital with Mum day and night making her smile, laugh and endless conversations. Mum was the bravest person, never did she complain of pain or shed a single tear. She left us all with inner strength to face this world without her on November 19th 2019. Life has not been the same ever since and it never will be ever … But we will continue to live it for you and follow in your footsteps. We will forever do everything we can to make you proud, and take care of Dad every step of the way. In Mum’s honour, in something she would have loved and enjoyed I will be doing the 10k walk to raise awareness of this rare type of cancer. I would be so grateful for any donations for this charity, which means a lot to me! Hopefully one day we will be able to fight it. "A mothers love is the most pristine and angelic of them all. Nobody loves you more than your own mother. Mothers are the only ones who will shower you with unconditional love and kindness in spite of all your mistakes." Leiomyosarcoma is a rare type of cancer that affects smooth muscle tissue. This tumour tends to be aggressive. The 5-year survival rate is only 50% with patients whose tumour is confined to the uterus. The 5-year survival rate for most other gynaecologic cancers can be more than 90% if the tumour has not spread outside the organ of origin. Thank you <3

CAUSE

Sarcoma

Sarcomas are cancers that develop from any of the supporting tissues in the body, such as muscle or fat. That means they can develop and grow almost anywhere. Each year around 3,300 people are diagnosed with soft tissue sarcoma in the UK – that’s around 9 cases diagnosed every day. Donations can help Cancer Research UK find out what causes them and develop better, kinder treatments to improve the outlook for patients.
