My Story
We have all had an eventful last couple of years and for me its been challenge after challenge. Now I am setting myself a positive challenge to complete the Shine Half Marathon Walk with my head held high & raising a bit of money for a really worthwhile cause. Cancer is a terrible set of illnesses. Throughout history its been a killer leaving medical science scratching its head for solutions. I lost my Dad five years ago to cancer. But these days there is hope & by investing in research little by little we are giving doctors more tools to fight it. I have several friends in remission from Cancer who would probably have not been here now if they caught it fifty years ago. My own personal nightmare started three years ago. Up to then I had been an athlete running, swimming and cycling even representing GB in my age group in the duathlon, Then one day I woke up not being able to walk properly and in severe pain. I went through months of Tests. Physio and scans. A year later in July 2020 I ended up having Major back surgery to release the sciatic nerve in my spine. The procedure was not successful & have spent the last few years popping pills & struggling to do all of the things I used to take for granted. After a about a year it was decided the operation was unsuccessful so went in hospital again in March 2022 for yet again another major back surgery procedure. Again this has not been fully successful but hopefully things will improve, I used to think running marathons was a challenge but to be honest this one probably surpasses that . So on with the challenge a half marathon with my family walking by my side and also raising money for cancer research . Please help me reach my target for such a good cause.
