My Story

Dear ........ Thank you very much for taking the time to visit my fundraising page. I sadly lost my Dad to duodenal cancer on 14th November 2019, he was 85 years young. Since his palliative diagnosis in September 2017, Dad and our family went through all sorts of emotions and times were incredibly tough. I wish Dad had felt able to talk about how he was feeling but it wasn’t to be. He must have been so frightened and angry, I know I was. He is at peace now and no longer suffering which is a blessing. Cancer is happening right now, which is why I’m fundraising right now in memory of Dad and everyone touched by cancer. My lovely Mum, Hilary, has been volunteering at her local Cancer Research UK charity shop for the past 15 years and counting. So, here goes my efforts to fundraise ! I’m doing a sponsored hair shave / cut and looking to go shorter than I’ve ever had my hair before. My husband will clipper cut my hair on his birthday, 2nd June 2020. Tables will be turned as I normally clipper cut his hair ! He’ll be starting with clipper attachment number 3 all over and seeing what I think. Then there’s number 2 and 1 depending on how brave I am ! Please kindly donate to my page today and help bring forward the day when all cancers are cured. I’m not ashamed to say that my mental health suffered greatly for a number of reasons but help is out there. Since the Coronavirus lockdown restrictions and our attempts at self imposed shielding measures inside our flat due to my severe asthma, it’s fair to say that I’m struggling again mentally but I know I won’t be alone in that. So the best advice I can give you is be brave enough to talk about how you are feeling, especially if you have cancer yourself or you are a family member or friend of someone who has cancer. I’m proud to say that I’m a registered stem cell donor with DKMS and I hope that I can help someone diagnosed with blood cancer in the future. REMEMBER, ASKING FOR HELP IS A STRENGTH, NOT A WEAKNESS. As a cancer patient or if you are supporting someone who is, you are not expected to face this alone. I’m registered here as Angyjean if anyone needs to chat : https://www.cancerresearchuk.org/about-cancer/cancer-chat 2nd June 2020 - the visit to our kitchen hair salon has taken place and what a liberating experience it was. After my husband bobbled, then cut the long lengths, I then braved it starting with clipper attachment 3 and then went to 2. I think Shaun has done a great job ! A massive thank you to everyone for their donations and messages of support. Together we will beat cancer. Love you and miss you so much Dad xxx Thank you and bless you Ange xx
