Littleborough Woof Walkies 2019

Sun 9 Jun 2019 - Mon 10 Jun 2019

My Story

Littleborough's infamous Doggy Dash takes on Woof Walkies 2019. A fun filled family sponsored dog walk around the beautiful Hollingworth Lake. You need to walk your furry friend come rain or shine, so why not do this with your friends and fundraise to support life saving research. You’d be barking mad not to sign up to your local Woof Walkies event! Walk/ run/ jog 2 miles around the lake and receive a goody bag filled with treats for all the family on your return to the visitor centre. The lake and its surrounding countryside offers a beautiful walk and most of the route is paved. Whilst you walk you and your furry friend can take in the surrounding countryside, watch the water activities on the lake and see lots of wildlife. £10 per registration. You may register one dog but have multiple dogs, this will mean that you will only receive one goodie bag for your pooches (Please note that all dogs MUST remain on leads at all times.) On the day • Prize for our top sponsorship fundraiser • Top dog & fancy dress contest • A Raffle • A Tombola • Doggy Stores Did you know? Cancer is a disease of cells. All cells can become cancerous - whether they belong to humans or dogs. When cancer does arise, the cells rapidly divide and demonstrate several other key hallmarks of cancer. The treatments we have developed for beating cancer in humans can often be used to treat dogs too. Often, like in many cases of human cancers, the first line of treatment will be to remove the tumour. Radiotherapy to kill the cancer cells or chemotherapy to kill actively dividing cells are both used in treating canine cancer. There are many different chemotherapeutic treatments that have been developed over the years, each designed to tackle cancer in a slightly different manner. One drug, carboplatin, was developed by Cancer Research UK scientists for treating cancer in humans. Carboplatin is now also used to treat cancer in dogs. It is particularly effective against sarcomas, a type of cancer that can form throughout the body from connective tissues. This event started as a Doggy Dash, thanks to The Three Amigos FUNdraising Group and their beloved terrier Oscar. Woof Walkies 2019 is in loving memory of Oscar the Third Amigo."
