Shine Night Walk - Full Marathon
Sat 23 Sep 2017
Hi there, Sorry to be on the beg but it’s for a really good cause, I’m doing the Cancer Research Shine night walk with a bunch of colleagues. There are, ridiculously, too many people who have been affected by cancer in my life, I’ll definitely have 3 people really close to heart when I’m walking the marathon length route whilst you’re tucked up in bed on 23rd September, now I know it’s not running a marathon but it’s still a challenge and as a group of 17 we needed to come up with an event which would suit us all and this is it………….. And it makes perfect sense, we came up with the idea because earlier this year a friend & colleague, Rosie, was diagnosed with breast cancer, she’s actually responding really well to treatment and will hopefully be joining us on the walk. There are so many more people out there who need support and we have a chance here to make a difference to the amazing work Cancer Research do, the other two people on my mind will be my Gran, she amazingly battled through Cancer twice before it got her a third time, and my brother in law was diagnosed with secondary cancer only a few weeks ago, he’s a young fit chap & it’s taken us all by surprise, he’s got a very long road ahead of him but with the likes of Cancer research supporting he has a good chance. Cancer research have positively impacted the 3 people I’ve mentioned and I’m pretty confident they will impact you or a loved one at some point in your lifetime too, lets support them. As a team we are aiming to raise £10,000. So every pound you can spare to support us will get matched by Barclays and go a long way to helping this cause. Thank you, Andy
CAUSE
Breast cancer
With almost 140 women diagnosed every day, breast cancer is the most common cancer in the UK. And, although rarer, around 350 men are also diagnosed with breast cancer every year. The good news is more than two-thirds of women now survive 20 years or more. Help Cancer Research UK find new ways to diagnose and treat the disease.
