Andrea's Race for Life

Cancer is happening right now, which is why I'm taking part in a Race for Life Pretty Muddy to raise money and save lives. 1 in 2 people will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. My husband Darryl who was always fit and healthy was taken suddenly I'll on June 11th 2017. He was rushed into hospital and diagnosed with a brain tumour that same night. We thought it would be something that could be operated on and after treatment he would retain a reasonable quality of life. However after a biopsy in the July it was confirmed that he had an inoperable GBM4, one of the most aggressive types of brain tumour with a prognosis of 12-24 months. He underwent all the standard treatment, included complimentary medication, took care of his diet, general health and kept a positive mental attitude. We did as many things as we could as a family to create happy memories. On November 23rd he suffered 4 massive seizures. He was unconscious for days and the doctors told us to say our goodbyes. Darryl continued to fight hard and regained consciousness, but the siezures had taken their toll plus they were just a symptom of the tumour's rapid growth. He needed constant care so we had to work hard with the hospital and all the professionals to get him home. He came home on February 15th but by 19th he'd taken a turn for the worse. He died peacefully with me by his side after having his 5 children and our closest family and friends around him during his final days. He was a caring and giving person who always had a smile to share. He would be proud of us all now as we try to help raise money to help others who fight this terrible thing called cancer.
