Thanks for visiting my fundraising page. We've all read the "one in three of us will be affected by cancer at some point in our lives" stats. I don't think I know anyone who has not been affected by this vile disease. We may not have been diagnosed ourselves but we have all certainly been affected by the diagnosis of a friend or family member. I'll never forget 2009/10 for the loss of 3 good friends to cancer. Rob, Tina & Steve all fought courageous battles against the disease. They were all in their 40's and left behind young families and loving partners whose lives will never be the same again. Rest in peace you three and know that you are loved and will never be forgotten. I'm not sure how I would've coped through the loss of these 3 lovely people without the support and friendship of another amazing lady, Carolyn. Carolyn & I met at work almost 20 years ago. We bonded over a shared sense of humour, mutual bemusement at the Higher Education system (both coming from the private sector) and a love of fruit crumble! She is the best friend anyone could ever have; kind, compassionate, honest and a true inspiration. It seems grossly unfair that she is also now bravely fighting her own cancer battle. We are told that our chances of surviving cancer these days are greater than ever before with improved screening programs, early diagnosis and improved treatments and I'm sure that's true. However I will do anything I can to help prevent others suffering the way my friends and their families suffered and are suffering.
If pledging 10,000 steps a day for just one month will help to raise awareness and funds toward the research and treatment for any form of cancer then I'm in. I know finances are stretched for many of us as we start a new year, but please donate anything you can, it doesn't matter how large or small the amount - every little really does help. Many of my FB friends will also remember Rob, Tina & Steve and have met the lovely Carolyn. Let's do this for them!!! Thank you xxx
