My Story
In August 2020, Tom Parker was diagnosed with Grade 4 Glioblastoma, a type of cancer that can occur in the brain or spinal cord. Many people may know Tom from popular boyband The Wanted, however to us, he was so much more than that. Tom was such a special man, so kind and caring whilst being so funny and cheeky. Devastatingly, on 30th March 2022, Tom passed away. While his life may have been short, what Tom achieved during his time is nothing short of extraordinary. Not only in terms of his music career, but the money and awareness he raised for brain tumours. As many may know, Tom worked with the Stand Up To Cancer campaign on his documentary and charity concert, raising both awareness and money for cancer research. SU2C is founded by Cancer Research UK in conjunction with Channel 4, therefore, we have made the decision to take part Cancer Research UK’s fundraiser Race For Life. Our motivation behind this is that only 3% of the money spent each year on cancer research in the UK is used to fund research for brain tumours, despite this being the biggest cancer killer of those under 40 in the UK. We hope that we can bring awareness to this, and help to contribute to vital research through the money we raise. We’ll miss you forever Tom, and will always love you. We’ll make sure you’re never forgotten and that your legacy lives on forever. Cancer is happening right now, which is why I'm taking part in a Race for Life Pretty Muddy to raise money and save lives. 1 in 2 people will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. Every single pound you donate makes a difference to Cancer Research UK’s groundbreaking work, so please sponsor me now.
