My Story

1 in 2 people will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. Every single pound you donate makes a difference to Cancer Research UK’s groundbreaking work, so please sponsor me now. I started couch to 5k as a way for me to maintain my physical and mental health during my final year of university. Amidst all the dissertation and essay writing, I wanted to do something that gave me a sense of achievement and allowed me to record my progress. I ran my first ever 5k on the morning of my final exam, so my running journey has been really closely linked with creating a sense of self-pride outside of academics. Given the above statistic, it is perhaps unsurprising that cancer has significantly impacted my family. Particularly over the past couple of years, I have personally witnessed the importance of effective and fast diagnosis and treatment. I have also seen the kindness and humanity demonstrated by those who work with cancer patients. I would love to raise money to support the progress of prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cancer. Thus, this run is personal for two reasons and doubly special to me. I will be running with my college, and my friends, during my last month in Durham. And I will be running for my Grandma. Whilst I’m not sure she would have had much to say about the running itself, she certainly would have approved of me doing something for myself outside of academics (I promise I’m not working too hard Grandma!). Please give what you can, whatever that is. In return, I promise to post a very muddy photo of myself following the race.
