My Story
Like so many others, my brother, much younger sister and I lost our mother to cancer. Early last summer, a few months before mum’s 50th birthday, she was diagnosed with an all invasive cancer. She didn’t have long. Her last few months were spent at home on the farm, where she was happiest. She was surrounded by all her friends and family. Every four minutes someone in the UK dies from cancer. In the financial year 2017/18 Cancer Research supported £413 million worth of research. In 2017/18 Cancer research spent £57 million on research into detecting cancer earlier, and £35 million on research into possible cancer causes and prevention. Nearly a year after her passing, I am going to take part in a half marathon in London with the support of my friend and work colleague, Jess. She lost her lovely godmother, also to cancer, in 2014. In honour of mum, I hope continued fundraising for Cancer Research will help prevent other families from going through the pain we have experienced. PLEASE DONATE!

CAUSE
Lung cancer
Each year more than 43,500 people are diagnosed with lung cancer in the UK. We urgently need to drive progress so that more people survive their disease. Cancer Research UK is at the forefront in lung cancer research and is funding various projects to tackle the disease head on. This includes the TRACERx study, Cancer Research UK’s largest investment into lung cancer to date. This study has already transformed our understanding of how lung cancer evolves and is continuing to shed light on how to prevent, detect and treat the disease.
