My Story
Cancer is a scary word and takes you to scary places. When you are told that you have it you might get hit by a numbness, it might take a while for it to sink in. Then, out of nowhere you get a fight or flight response kick in telling you that you have to face it! No matter how scary! Whatever prospect or outcome you might be facing you have been placed in a position where it is riding towards you and you need to call upon your inner powers to get you through. You become your own superhero. Our event "Superhero in the cold" invites anybody who is feeling inspired to dress up as a superhero, do a fun dance warm up courtesy of Dance centered (who host free dance classes in Cornwall for ladies affected by Cancer) and then go running into the cold sea! Whether it's to honour somebody who has had cancer, somebody they know who is fighting cancer or just because they want to have some fun on the beautiful Towan beach in Newquay! We are being supported by our local lifeguards who are giving up their own time to watch over us and our fabulous Concho Lounge venue where we are going to have a raffle and activities for all the family to enjoy. This event started 3 years ago when myself and my fellow host Andrea dressed as superheroes as part of the cancer research UK cold water challenge. It was so much fun!! Last year we marked the anniversary of the event by inviting other people to join us in a community superhero swim and we had an incredible turn out raising lots more money! This time for our 3rd annual superhero in the cold event we are going bigger and better than ever!! So please support us! We really are so excited and just can't wait! 💖
