Gina & Grandad

My Story

As some of you may know, Matthew’s mum, our beautiful Gina passed away from Melanoma skin Cancer in July 2017. Unfortunately the melanoma spread to different parts of her body, including her brain, meaning that she had only 7 months from diagnosis to when she came to the end of her life in Tŷ Olwen Hospice. Gina’s illness inspired me to become a nurse. I wanted to help Gina with all I had whilst she was in hospital but I had no idea how to. I know now that becoming a nurse is what I’m destined to do. I acquired the 750 hours of clinical experience needed after completing my degree in Welsh, and then applied for a Masters Degree in Adult Nursing, and I will be qualified by the end of next year. Once qualified, I hope to specialise in Oncology so that I can care for those diagnosed with Cancer and really make a difference to their recovery or to the end of their life. Anyone who knew Gina would agree that she brought a smile to everyone’s face. Her contagious laugh, her positivity and love of life effected everyone who had the pleasure of meeting her. She truly was one of the most beautiful people I have ever met and she is missed by her friends and family every single day. It never gets easier. In July, I will be taking part again in the Pretty Muddy Race for Life in the hope of raising money for Cancer Research. My wonderful Grandad passed away due to Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma in September 1997. Although I only had the honour of knowing him for just 1 year of my life, his legacy lives on through our family. I’m told that I have a lot of his traits and I love hearing the stories about his life as a farmer and how much he was adored by friends and family. I am completing the Race for Life, for Grandad, Gina, those who have been effected by Cancer and those who will be in the future. Let’s find the cure to this horrific disease, together. Please donate as little or as much as you can. I’m hugely appreciative of anything you can give. Thank you 💗
