My Story
Cancer. It is one of the greatest silent killers of society. A villain, a murderer, a disease… For years, man has tirelessly searched, constructed and catalysed cures for this unforgiving disease… and whilst progress has been made, cancer still manages to callously take loved ones from our lives… With the most notable stats being that 1 in 2 of us will be diagnosed with cancer and over 167,000 people die from cancer each year… 13 years ago I lost my other half, my Nan to a battle with lung cancer… 8 years later one of my closest friends finally gave in to bone cancer ..4 years later my carer was diagnosed with severe breast cancer.. 2 years later my mum was diagnosed with stage 2 skin cancer and received urgent surgery… fortunately she was one of a few people to win their battle with cancer… Now, I’m not simply writing to you to ask for your sympathy … I’m simply highlighting the fact that cancer is still so prevalent in our modern day society and whilst we’ve come a long way in curing specific cases… there are still many treatments needed in order to conquer this silent killer… Sadly, every cure comes with a price … and that’s why every year for the past 11 years I have run 5/10km in order to raise money for cancer research. This year I am going to run 5km in an INFLATABLE FLAMINGO COSTUME… so please, if you can, donate… it’s for a good cause and each donation goes such a long way! Together we can beat it!
