My dear friend recently lost her son, Sam, aged 3. He had Neuroblastoma, a rare children's cancer
In memory of
Sam Hamblen aged 3
My Story
Earlier this year, my dear friend, Kaz, lost her son when he had only just turned 3. He had been diagnosed with Neuroblastoma about 18 months previously. This is a rare cancer that mostly affects babies and children under 5. He was such a happy, smiley, brave little boy who fought right through to the bitter end. He clearly didn't want to leave his loving family......... Their journey as a family has been unbelievable and it really does make you think about how precious each and every life is. I met Kaz at our Ante Natal Group when we were both pregnant with our first children, and they later became good friends at Preschool and are still friends now. We both then went on to have little boys... As I sit here with tears rolling down my face, I want to do something to help stop other families from going through this pain. So, what started off as just Kaz and I doing this Shinewalk, has now grown into a group of about 20 of us! That says it all. This is what Kaz wrote about her son.... My gorgeous smiling boy was diagnosed with high risk neuroblastoma stage 4 at the age of 16 months. He battled bravely but devastatingly he passed away only 10 days after his 3rd birthday. We are totally lost without our lovely boy who was so caring of others even when in pain. I am doing this walk because if I can do anything to help save another child or family going through this.... Over the past 20 months I've led a very sedentary lifestyle. Sam and I had alot of hospital stays and for the last 6 weeks of his life only really moving between the sofa and bed, cuddling Sam and not wanting to ever let him go. For me, to walk 13 miles is a major challenge but one that I am determined to conquer - and I will! A bright twinkling star ⭐️ will be keeping a watch over us all as we 'Shine for Sam' Please can you donate whatever you feel you can, be that £1 or £20. It all helps.
