My Story

Cancer is happening right now, which is why I'm taking part in a Race for Life 5k to raise money and save lives. I’m doing this for my dad and my auntie ❤️ My dad was diagnosed with bladder cancer in 2008. He had a 10 hour op to remove all the tumours and was cancer free. It was great to see him so healthy again. In 2011 my mum passed away and he did find that hard to deal with but we all rallied around him to keep his spirits up. In 2013 the cancer had come back and was now in his bones, bowel and bladder . We all were all devastated. He kept asking how long did he have left but no one wanted to commit themselves as it was unpredictable to give a time. But after him repeatedly asking they said maybe a year but nobody really knows so his first thing he said to my husband and I were where are we going on holiday then as he loved his holidays but no one had the heart to tell him it wasn’t going to happen. They had sorted him to have radiotherapy in Brighton the following week so we all took that as a positive. On the Sunday before his treatment we took him to the hospital cafe for a hot chocolate and he was in good spirits which gave us some hope. Tuesday came the day to start his treatment and then it all went downhill as his bowel had perforated and there was nothing they could do anymore as he was too weak to have it repaired. I remember having that talk on the Tuesday (the day treatment should have started) saying they can’t repair the bowel as the cancer had spread and he had days to live. It was horrendous to watch him with tubes in his mouth , nose and stomach as he couldn’t take or keep anything down. Each day went by and he was fading away right before our eyes . On the Sunday November 10th my pops had passed at 6am. 💔😢
