Althea's Race for Life
Portsmouth 5k 2019
Sun 7 Jul 2019 - Sun 7 Jul 2019
Cancer has happened to me, members of my family and my friends. That's why I'm taking part in a Race for Life 5k as part of the wonderful March for Life band, to raise money and save lives. I'll be marching with a side drum again this year, after several years when I haven't been strong enough and will be particularly thinking of Tom, Mark and David, who are all currently facing this terrible disease. A few weeks ago I lost a friend who had supported me through my cancer journey. She was 6 months younger than me, a female engineer (like me) and has been part of the march for life band since it was started. She was an amazing woman who lived life to the full and who didn't deserve the hand she was dealt. The same applies to two of my neighbours, Terry and Jan, who were taken by the disease roughly 6 months ago, as well as Jeremy, Ceinwen, Fitz and David. Effective treatments are still needed. 1 in 2 people will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. Every single pound you donate makes a difference to Cancer Research UK’s groundbreaking work, so please sponsor me now.
