In memory of
Georgina Marshall
I lost my Mum to cancer in October 2016 after being diagnosed in the April. She received excellent support and care from the cancer specialists as Leicester Royal Infirmary. The sudden lose and experience left me with deep grief and depression and struggled to find positivity. I received wonderful support from my partner and children as well as close friends but realised that I had to be "kinder to myself" and stop carrying so much guilt for being alive when she wasn’t. I set about making several changes and one of these was to increase my exercise so I took up running. Slow 2 miles to start and gradually built in confidence. On the anniversary of my mum deaths last year I took myself out for a run to clear my head and find some “Me time”. That day I cleared over 5 miles the most I had ever run before. Id found my mojo and decided to commit myself to this challenge in honour of my Mum. The challenge is to complete 3 half marathons this year. Market Bosworth (May 2018) - the district in which my Mum was born and raised, GNR (Sept 2018) - my mum married my Dad in Durham just outside Newcastle and Leicester (Oct 2018) where she lived the rest of her life. It’s not always been an easy journey and it’s a tough discipline to keep pushing yourself. I’ve also had a recent Achilles tendon injury but im pleased to say that im strong enough to commit to the GNR and Leicester and cannot wait to be part of such amazing events raising money for wonderful causes. I also hope that im able to share a little inspiration to others that would like to start running or push themselves that bit further. Its a great motivator and works wonders for the waist line! Cancer is happening right now, which is why I’m raising money right now for Cancer Research UK. There’s no time to lose! Donate to my page today, whatever you can spare and help bring forward the day when all cancers are cured.
