My Story

Thank you for visiting my Donate in Memory page. Alison Butler, a mother, wife, sister, auntie and friend of many, was diagnosed with Lung Cancer at the start of the year (2019). We only found the growth by chance, and in no time the growth and a few lymph nodes had been surgically removed, she was then given a 5% (out of 100%) chance of the cancer coming back. 3 months after the operation, she was seen for her first check up. Unfortunately during that check up they had discovered that in those 3 months the Cancer had come back and was now growing in her lung, liver and main lymph node in her shoulder. She had been told it was stage 4. We had many plans in which to fight this cancer, however due to how aggressive it was, week after week our pathways kept getting cut off from how fast it was progressing. When going to a blood test check before her second chemo appointment, she was hospitalised due to low blood pressure and trouble breathing. Her liver was so inflamed from the growth, that it was putting too much pressure on her lungs, stomach and heart. Before we knew it, her liver was so diseased from the cancer that we were given the unfortunate news that chemo was not an option anymore, and we were given a 3 months time frame. A couple of days later we were then told we had the weekend due to the progression of the cancer and the strain it was putting on the rest of her body. She passed in the early hours of the next morning. The consultants told us that hers was a rare case of rapid growth, and in their time of oncology they had only ever seen a couple of cases where the cancer has been this aggressive. Cancer is a horrible destructive disease that needs to be stopped. 1 in 2 people are diagnosed with cancer now. The fight is always continuing and is always needing soldiers to fight it. To this day, we still don't understand Cancer fully and so many treatments are still not available. They NEED to have the funds in which to research and help fight cancer. Even a little is a step forward, and a step forward is what we need. Please help fight, help people like Alison fight.
