2019 Royal Parks Half Marathon
Sun 13 Oct 2019 - Sun 13 Oct 2019
Lucy (housemate, BFF, #1 cheerleader) and I have gone crazy and have signed up to do the Royal Parks Half Marathon on 13th October… For those of you that don’t know, a half marathon is 13.1 miles, or 21km. For context, that’s from our house (in Walthamstow) to Croydon, Marsh Gibbon to Kidlington… Basically it’s really far! We’ve been training for a while, and, I can’t lie, it seems more and more like a totally insane idea - our knees ache all the time, we had no idea how boring it would be, and you don’t even really get to eat extra food like I thought we would! That said, and without wanting to get too deep, it been a rough year for both of us with cancer - we’ve lost people (Lesley ♥) and we’ve watched people be diagnosed and have to go through treatment (my cousin, Fiona ♥) and it sucks. It’s heartbreaking, and we don’t want anyone to have to go through it. So here we are! The countdown is on! And I would appreciate anything you can give! Knowing that we’re doing this for Cancer Research makes all of the training runs in the rain (or the heatwaves this summer! 🔥), the blisters and being seen in lycra (just about) worth it. To quote Lucy: ‘running sucks, but cancer sucks more’ and I actually can’t sum it up better than that.
