My Story
This September, I’m taking on Sweatember, exercising every day of the month to raise money for Cancer Research UK. Help bring forward the day when all cancers are cured by sponsoring me. Im a 27 year old new mum and since having my baby I've struggled with my body and the new shape and feel of it. In order to do something about it and spread some good in the world I've decided to do #Sweatember and to Vlog each day to help other new mums come to terms with their bodys. My story is pretty straight forward. In primary school you will have been told that making a baby takes 9 months and your body just does its thing until you go through several hours of trying to push a watermelon out of a toilet roll and there we go. Motherhood. Well that is not how we got here. Our pregnancy was tough, multiple tests, a small operation and then finally a problem with my kidneys, pre-eclampsia and a baby almost 2 months earlier than planned. As she came via c section that threw everything off. My rose tinted view of breast feeding my baby and having skin to skin contact was gone. We spent 9 days in the hospital in and out of an incubator, struggling to latch on and becoming more and more upset that motherhood wasnt going to 'plan'. Now that my baby is 7 months old ive come to terms with all of that but it has changed to a resentment of my body. It couldnt carry a baby for 9 months - the job its designed to do - and now its a lumpy bumpy blubbery mess with a lovely purple scar to make things better. So I will be tracking each day. How I feel, what I've done and how I've included my baby in exercising (where possible). Your job is simple. Donate whatever you can to a charity that is helping people fight cancer so that one day it will be something we talk about in history classes and not something we still have to raise money and awareness of. Wish me luck on my partially altruistic journey as september begins and my month of complaining begins ❤
