Alex's #sillyhatformatt challenge

Thanks for taking the time to visit my fundraising page. Matt Simpson was husband to Trine, dad to Daniel and Oliver and friend of many. He loved a silly hat. His life was tragically cut short by a rare type of stomach cancer (known as linitis plastica) diagnosed in October 2012. He was fit and healthy and there was no family history of the disease. He passed away in November 2013. He was just 40yrs old. This is a cancer that has no identifiable cause, no genetic testing available and where treatment is often deemed too controversial to pursue. The average survival rate is months, not years. Only 8% survive after 5 years. In memory of Matt, Trine has set up a fundraising effort across the UK and Australia to specifically raise money for research into stomach cancer. The #sillyhatformatt team are raising money between July and November. Lots of people are doing amazing gutsy challenges in memory of Matt - triathlons, 'stadium stomps', school silly hat days, half marathons, 10km races, 'the nuts' challenge..... I have pledged to run 50miles over the course of September. 80.5km. Quite a long way (for me!). I have signed up to 'Race at your Pace' for September and will log each run I do during the month. And I will wear a silly hat 🎩 along the way (although maybe not all the time - it gets quite hot!!). Your donations will help keep me going - and go towards a really important cause.
