My Story
2018 was the hardest year we (Alex and Ela) have lived through so far in our lives. It began in 2017 when the news nobody wants to hear affected our family. Alex's Dad (Keith) was diagnosed with Oesophageal cancer which is a non-curable aggressive cancer. We spent as much time together as a family as possible allowing us to say goodbye. Keith loved the time he spent with his four young grandchildren, dancing to silly music in the living room and pushing them on the swings. It is so sad that he will not see them growing up as we all imagined. In January 2018 (only 7 months after the diagnosis) Keith passed away surrounded by his close family. We were lucky to have had him as a part of our lives. He touched so many people's lives all around the world with his kind, witty, funny and smart character, always helping and supporting people who passed his way. Shortly thereafter in April 2018, Alex lost his Uncle David after a long battle with cancer. David's two daughters had already lost their Mum to cancer a few years before. He was one of a kind, wonderfully silly and generous and a man who remained a boy at heart. Both Keith and David, were amazing husbands, fathers, grandfathers and friends to so many. They were much loved and are hugely missed. Sadly, we have lost more wonderful people to cancer recently in our extended family and our close friends' families. Too many families are affected by cancer which can change our lives in a split second. We have therefore decided to raise money for Cancer Research UK by walking a marathon overnight in the Shine Night Walk through London. Please donate to help fund their research and much needed work! Each year Cancer Research UK’s scientists get closer to beating cancer, and they have helped double the survival rates in the last 40 years. But we can’t stop there. Only with our continued support can they turn this research into breakthroughs that save millions of lives. Every single pound you donate makes a difference to Cancer Research UK’s groundbreaking work, so please sponsor us.
