Climbing Cavall Bernat

Climb the 240 m of one of Montserrat's mountain true gem: Punsola Reniu_Cavall Bernat, in Barcelona

In memory of

Juan Carlos Bruna, and all cancer fighters

My Story

A couple of weeks ago I had my first experience climbing. Initially, due to my lack of experience, I felt very insecure.. I could feel the anxiety and fear in my mind and my body, and the lack of certainty that I was going to make it in one piece, or rather… at all!!! It make me think that these physical and mental challenges might not be too different from those cancer patients feel when diagnosed and throughout their disease. Only, I had a choice…. As a scientist working for Cancer Research UK, University of Cambridge I would like to send a message: there is hope!! Together, we will treat cancer efficiently sooner. As a daughter and friend of cancer patients, I would like to stand up for them with a mental and physical challenge. I aim to train myself and climb the 240 m of one of Montserrat's mountain true gem: Cavall Bernat, in Barcelona (https://escalatroncs.com/2011/08/07/punsola-reniu-al-cavall-bernat/;https://www.mountainproject.com/route/108692491/punsola-reniu ) on the 16th of June, 2018. I am not alone in this challenge...a team of amazing people and climbers will accompany me on the journey and the fundraising (Josep Borras, Montse Massoni, Jordi Casanovas, Josep Climent, David Gomez, Laura Gutierrez, Alberto Palatchi, Denis Ruiz, Juampi Sabbione y Mar Zaragoza. Together, we call ourselves the "Dream Big Team". And as a first time climber: I would like to say that when I reached to the top of the mountain, I was invaded by a sudden trust in myself, and joy….. because I did it, albeit the fear… I just kept going, up, up, one step after the other… eventually, I actually changed the way I experienced the climbing and started to enjoy it. My wish is to spread this feeling to all those suffering, to spread strength and hope, so they can get to the top of their own defiant mountain. If you would like to fundraise this challenge so that research can help many more cancer patients please follow the link (https://fundraise.cancerresearchuk.org/page/alejandra-climbing-challenge)… even 1£ matters.
