My Story

Cancer is happening right now, which is why I'm taking part in a Race for Life 5k to raise money and save lives. 1 in 2 people will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. Every single pound you donate makes a difference to Cancer Research UK’s groundbreaking work, so please sponsor me now. Donating through this page is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with Cancer Research UK. So in 2015 I was diagnosed with colorectal cancer, (a bit of a shock while trying to take in the news no one ever wants to hear ), my youngest had just had an operation on her foot as she has cerebral palsy. So if that wasn't bad enough days 5 after my news my mum went into hospital on the Monday with what our thought was going to be a bug, chest infection?! 2 days later we were told mum had secondary cancer and was so poorly she wasn't going to be going home , she was in fact dying. So our world fell apart and 2 days later surrounded by all her family she died - Friday march 2015 at 3.50 pm , with mum having Alzheimer's she wasn't aware of any thing wrong with herself and of what we had told her about me either. So mums cancer had returned , no one knew and it took her from us in 4 days... so I continued to fight my battle without mum but I always knew she was with me even on my birthday 3 weeks after she'd died while I was having radiotherapy, i continued to have chemo until I was ready for surgery, all went well although I had an ileostomy , 2 months later I endured 5 months of chemotherapy, once finished I was left with peripheral neuropathy in my feet , osteopenia and thrown into menopause.2 months later I had my ileostomy reversed. Eventually I went back to work and slowly I am getting back on track, I am in remission and I intend to stay that way , I've recently completed the mud run with 2 of my daughters but will be doing the 5k on July 16 th with all 3 daughters , my amazingly supportive sister and auntie!!! Please sponsor me/ us as we need to put an end to this killer disease , I'm a survivor and I only got the treatment and support from the amazing NHS staff at RBH through money raised by you !!! Let's STOP cancer, I never thought I would be me... who will be next?! Thank you Alana xx
