2018 Simplyhealth Great North Run

I was looking for a reasonably sensible idea to do this... I didn’t expect it to come from Simon Dallyn though! Why Cancer research? Please read on :) I am not usually one for writing something like this but my Mum has just come through the toughest 3 years imaginable. She survived a stroke just over 3 years ago, which was brought on by complications and this was then followed by a hysterectomy procedure. It seems so easy writing this down now but was such a scary experience for us all, let alone her. She had just months before this completed the London marathon and this was all completely out of the blue. What followed this, just when we all thought the nightmare was all over was the devastating blow that she was diagnosed with endometrial cancer of the womb. This was then followed by a course of chemotherapy & radiotherapy, which were without doubts the most painful months of my life to see. So to cope with all that and fight through it all, was truly heroic. She is now in a period of recovery and loving her life in Spain, which is amazing to see. I thought to myself if my mum can fight off a stroke, hysterectomy and cancer the least I can do is run 13 bloody miles for a good cause and one that has been essential in her survival & recovery. Hopefully I can raise some money to give others the chance to do this! All donations raised up to £1000 will be matched £4£ by Barclaycard. If we can raise £1000, then I will follow this up with a ‘proper’ marathon in 2019 ;)
