My Story
HOP Stars are running (possibly walking?!) the 5k Race for Life later this month to raise money for Cancer Research UK to support their vital work finding a cure and treatments for cancer. We are running as a team of local families from Honor Oak. As a team we hope not only to help the littlest legs complete the full 5km but also to raise much needed funds for a cause that is very close to our hearts. Clare (one of our team; mum of Sammy, Abi and Flo; and instigator of this crazy plan) was diagnosed last year with stage 4 bowel cancer which had spread to her liver. She has been through multiple operations, and undergone aggressive treatment which successfully removed the cancer from her organs. However, earlier this year, she discovered it had further spread to her lymph nodes. She is currently trying different treatment to keep it at bay for as long as possible. She wouldn’t’ve be able to run (or even walk) the Race for Life with us without the treatment she’s had. But her options are now limited due to her rare diagnosis. She is determined to help future people in her position get the treatment they need, no matter what cancer they have. Your support would be hugely appreciated and will certainly help incentivise the younger members of our team get round the course!
