A race for Carrera

[VERSIÓN EN ESPAÑOL DEBAJO] This is not my first half marathon anymore after years of running, but it will be the most special one. I want to run the Manchester Great Run (half marathon) to raise funds for Cancer Research in memory of one of my best friends, Ignacio Carrera, who died of cancer at the young age of 49 a year and a half a go. I met Ignacio whilst studying at university in Madrid and we shared so many stories, trips and memories over the years together. We even worked together for two years. Despite me relocating to England, we never lost contact and kept in touch for more than 20 years, even during his illness. He left behind his wife and two daughters. Eva, his youngest, was diagnosed with Dravet Syndrome (a rare form of epylepsy with no cure to date) and Ignacio, true to form, put all his heart and effort in taking care of Eva, but also fighting for more research into the Dravet Syndrome. He was an excellent friend, a force of nature, and never gave up. He was an example for us all. For those of you who might not know Carrera in Spanish means race. So I want to take on this race to honour Ignacio Carrera and raise vital funds for the fight against cancer in his name, and that of his family. Please donate as much as you can. Thank you on behalf of Ignacio, his family, his friends and all of us that have been afected by cancer. Esta ya no es mi primera media maratón tras varios años corriendo, pero sí será una de las más especiales. Correré la Media Maratón de Manchester para recaudar fondos para la investigación contra el cáncer en memoria de uno de mis mejores amigos, Ignacio Carrera, que murió de cáncer a la temprana edad de 49 años hace un año y medio. Conocí a Ignacio mientras estudiaba en la universidad en Madrid y compartimos muchas historias, viajes y recuerdos a lo largo de los años. Incluso trabajamos juntos durante dos años. A pesar de que me mudé a Inglaterra, nunca perdimos el contacto y nos mantuvimos en contacto durante más de 20 años, incluso durante su enfermedad. Deja atrás a su esposa y dos hijas. Eva, su hija menor, fue diagnosticada con el Síndrome de Dravet (una forma rara de epilepsia sin cura hasta la fecha) e Ignacio, fiel a su estilo, puso todo su corazón y esfuerzo en cuidar de Eva, pero también en luchar por más investigación sobre el Síndrome de Dravet. Era un excelente amigo, una fuerza de la naturaleza, y nunca se rindió. Fue un ejemplo para todos nosotros y por eso quiero correr esta medio maratón de Manchester en su nombre. Dado el apellido me ha parecido la mejor manera de recordar y homenajear a nuestro querido amigo Ignacio es con una carrera y recaudando fondos vitales para la lucha contra el cáncer en su nombre. Por favor, dona todo lo que puedas. Gracias en nombre de Ignacio, de su familia, de sus amigos y de todos los que hemos sido afectados por el cáncer.
