My Story
On the 21st September 2022, James Denning, Phil Mathias, Matt Jones and Myself will be attempting to complete the National 3 Peaks in 24 Hours Challenge in memory of Andrew Roberts. Andrew, a Brother, Husband, Father, Son and dear friend to so many, sadly passed away in 2020 and one of the many things he will be remembered for is his commitment to raising money for Cancer Research. Cancer infiltrates the lives of many of us, we as a family were no exception. This became even more apparent in 2012 when Andrew and Ruth’s daughter Sophie was diagnosed with liver cancer, which spread to her lungs at the age of 2. Through a huge fundraising effort led by Andrew and Ruth, Sophie was flown to New York to receive life saving surgery and 11 years on thankfully Sophie is cancer free. Andrew will be remembered for too many things to list, but one thing that stands out was his passion for challenging himself whether that be through running Marathons, taking part in Ironman competitions, cycling races and many more. We are doing this challenge to celebrate, remember and honour Andrew, whilst raising money for the cause that was so close to his heart. The National Three Peaks Challenge involves climbing the three highest peaks of Scotland (Ben Nevis), England (Scafell Pike) and Wales (Snowdon), we are adding to the difficulty by attempting to do it within 24 hours! We will set off from Surrey, in our motor home for the adventure, on the 20th September and drive to Scotland to first tackle Ben Nevis in the early hours on the 21st September. We then drive down to the Lake District to climb Scafell Pike over night, finally we drive across to North Wales to conquer Snowdon and with any luck be back down at ground level 24 hours later. The total walking distance is 23 miles (37km), the total ascent is 3064 metres (10,052ft), which is no easy task! Any support that you can contribute will be greatly appreciated by us all. Thank you.
