My Story
Thank you for visiting my fundraising page. Running the London Marathon has been a long-held ambition of mine, and I’m incredibly proud to be taking part while raising money for Cancer Research UK. For me, running is one of the few times I have that’s truly my own. I have a fantastic role at Haven that I love and am very proud of, alongside raising two wonderful young children. Life is busy, and I tend to give everything I have to both work and family. Running is the part that’s just for me. It gives me time and space to reset, clear my head and look after my own wellbeing so I can come back to everything else with more energy, focus and resilience. A few years ago, I stopped running regularly in an attempt to create a better work-life balance. Looking back, I hadn’t realised quite how important running was to me. Earlier this year, Haven’s ‘Get Moving in May’ challenge reignited my love of running, and I rediscovered how much of a positive difference it makes. But there’s another, more personal reason why I’ll be running the marathon for CRUK. Seven years ago, my sister was diagnosed with womb cancer. It was an incredibly difficult time for her and our whole family. She went through a long and painful journey before finally receiving her diagnosis, followed by major surgery. Thankfully, today she is healthy and happy, but her experience showed me the life-changing impact of cancer research. The progress made in understanding, diagnosing and treating cancer means more people get to have the outcome that my sister did. It also showed me how important awareness is, particularly around gynaecological cancers: knowing your body, trusting your instincts and seeking help when something doesn’t feel right. I want to raise as much as I possibly can for Cancer Research UK, helping to fund the research that gives more people more time with the people they love. If you’re able to donate, however much, I would be hugely grateful. And if you can’t donate, sharing my page and supporting me along the way will mean just as much. Thank you so much for being part of my journey. Now for those 26.2 miles! 🏃♂️❤️
