My Story
I am so proud to be running the 2027 London Marathon for Cancer Research UK! Cancer Research UK is a charity that is incredibly close to my heart. When I was nine years old, I lost my Dad, Rodney, to oesophageal cancer. He was just 51 years old. Oesophageal cancer has one of the lowest survival rates of any cancer. When my Dad was diagnosed in 2006, there was very little that could be done, and he sadly passed away just six months later. Thanks to research, survival rates have improved over the last two decades, but there is still so much more to do. After handing over my Miss Great Britain title, taking on the London Marathon feels like the perfect way to continue making a difference. Throughout my reign, I have campaigned to support bereaved families through my Time to Grieve campaign, and this challenge is another way of honouring my Dad's memory while helping to create a future where fewer families have to experience the same heartbreak. Every mile I run and every pound raised will help Cancer Research UK continue their incredible, life-saving research. Together, we can help create a future where more people survive cancer and more families get to spend precious time with the people they love. Thank you so much for your support. Cancer is complex. There are over 200 types of cancer, most of which have different biology and behaviour. With your support, our dedicated researchers can continue to discover better ways to prevent, detect and treat this disease, and bring about a world where everybody lives longer, better lives, free from the fear of cancer.
