For nearly 4 years, Cancer has been an unwelcome visitor in our family. Back in October 2013, when I was 36, I was diagnosed with Stage 2 Breast Cancer. It was a whirlwind of surgeries, scans, blood tests, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, hormone therapy and biological therapies. Our world was flipped upside down. 15 months later, in January 2016, I was told the cancer had spread into my spine and the diagnosis became Stage 4...there was no cure, but treatable. So the roller coaster started up again with surgery, scans, blood tests, radiotherapy, hormone therapy and biological therapies. The treatment was ongoing and successfully kept the cancer under control until June 2017 when we had the news that there was progression into my hip and shoulder bone and as a result, the overall management regime changed and I'll be starting a course of chemotherapy. Hopefully, this change will target and destroy these new tumours, and we can go back to "Business as Usual". Doing the Race for Life this year will be hard. But raising money is important. I know too many people who are living with Stage 4 Cancer. Like me, dying for a Cure. This is why I'm taking part in a Race for Life 5k to raise money and save lives. 1 in 2 people will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime.
